Trivia

  • The 2009 Grand Touring Sports Special GBG is an in-house design primarily based on the McLaren MP4-12C sports car.
  • The 2007 Grand Touring Sports SS-E, is an in-house design by Pixar. Jay Shuster, a character and environment designer who worked on all three Cars films, stated in a Q&A that Miguel wasn't based on a specific car, but took inspiration from several vehicles including the Corvette C6-R (as Shuster stated Miguel's design reused the existing Corvette model due to budget concerns), Nissan GTR, and American muscle cars.[1][2]
  • Nigel and Jeff are the only GTS racing cars modeled after real cars, both in terms of design and specifications. In contrast, Lewis and Miguel are original designs created by Pixar. While they draw inspiration from real cars, they are not meant to be exact replicas of any particular vehicle. This is also why they're named after the racing series they participate in, Grand Touring Sports.
  • The Saxon cars have GTSC (Grand Touring Sport Coupe) as part of their car model names.
  • The GTS1 and GTS2 classes are based on the defunct GT1 and GT2 classes that used to be very popular at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA GT Championship.
  • In an early concept design of the World Grand Prix Racers, there were originally two different GT characters instead of Lewis and Miguel. One was a Porsche GT1, based on the Porsche 911 (997 GT3 RSR) GT2, and the other was a Ferrari GT2 based on the Ferrari F430 GT2.
